Ethanol – The Corn Industry Wants to Increase Ethanol from 10% to 15% at Gas Pumps
Corn growers and the ethanol plants are not content with their current 10% (E10) guaranteed ethanol mixture at our gasoline pumps. Now, they want to add another 5% so that a 15% ethanol mixture will be pumped into our gas tanks. If you love to hunt pheasants, waterfowl, deer, turkey or other game then you need to fight this increase from happening.
Currently, 40% of the Minnesota corn crop is guaranteed a market by being Federally mandated to go to the local ethanol plant to satisfy the 10% ethanol requirement at every gas pump in Minnesota. If E15 becomes a reality we would see a jump to 60% of the entire state’s corn production going to ethanol refineries. Every acre of CRP that exists now would be lost to corn, as will our fence rows, woodlots and any other odd piece of grassland that isn’t currently under the plow. Any vote for E15 by our U.S. Senators or Representatives should be a lost vote in upcoming elections from each of Minnesota’s 500,000 hunters and 1,000,000 licensed anglers.
